International Honeybee Festival held in Palisade
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -The Palisade International Honeybee Festival was held on April 12. The event lasted from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A variety of events went on during the festival, including live music, educational speakers, chef’s demonstrations, a spelling bee, and a costume contest. There were also several honey vendors, as well as local businesses with stalls at the festival.
One of the main goals was to help educate people about the importance of honeybees. “One third of everything you eat is pollinated by a honeybee. So, if honeybees go away, a third of our food would go away. So, it’s important that people know the differences between wasps and honeybees and not to kill honeybees so that they can have food to eat,” said Tracy Roberts, the Vice President of the Western Colorado Beekeepers Association, who had a stall at the event.
