Beekeeping Program Set for Tuesday
North Carolina master beekeeper Christi Henthorn, and other local beekeepers who have already started their apiary journey, will discuss ‘‘Beekeeping’’ 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Harbor Mountain Brewing.
‘‘Interested in beekeeping? Looking to learn? Maybe they scare you a bit or you’re not into keeping another living thing alive? No worries! Beekeeping has something for everyone, for all ages and walks of live – just like life in a beehive, there are many tasks that can be done and team work is a honey bees naturals instinct,’’ Henthorn said.
Beekeeping can be a very rewarding, yet challenging hobby, she said. It’s a mix of science, art, home economics, woodworking and homesteading.
‘‘Honey crops may not be at the top of the list, but if you like to learn, increase yield in your garden or find a new way to manage stress and PTSD, beekeeping may be for you,’’ Henthorn said!
An update on an overwintered beehive will be given. Henthorn will discuss mite management, a spring inspection checklist, food stores and moisture/ventilation.
