Save the date! The European State of the Climate 2024, is out on 15 April
The European State of the Climate will be released on 15 April 2025, providing a wide range of new data and analysis about 2024. After gathering and analysing key data about the climate conditions of the year, an effort that involves around 100 contributors, the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) publish the European State of the Climate 2024 (ESOTC 2024), providing a detailed overview and key insights into a wide range of climate variables and topics.
The 2024 edition of the annual report, the second released jointly by C3S and WMO, delves into the year’s conditions through a range of interactive and static charts, infographics and analyses about the warmest year globally and for Europe. A newly introduced gallery allows us to explore 130 new graphics, and the data behind them, which are free to use and download.
First published in 2018, the ESOTC report provides a wealth of information beyond the analysis of temperatures, providing data on 19 different climate variables, from river flows to sunshine and cloudiness, precipitation to snow and glaciers, renewable energy resources, and much more, with a focus on Europe and the Arctic. The report also provides insights into key events, including wildfires, heatwaves, flooding and storms in 2024, to keep track of our changing climate and the impacts for Europe, the fastest-warming continent.
The year 2024 has already been confirmed as the warmest on record, both globally and in Europe, in the C3S Global Climate Highlights, published at the beginning of the year and the WMO’s State of the Global Climate.
Prior to the publication of the report on 15 April, members of the Press are kindly invited to a media briefing, under strict embargo, on 10 April 2025.
Top representatives from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and WMO, and the European Commission, will present the key findings of the report and answer questions from the media.
Please contact our Press service to register by 9 April in the following address:
