New Beekeeper Training Held at Red River Valley Fairgrounds
People looking to get into a sweet and buzzy hobby turned up for beekeeping training at Red River Valley Fairgrounds.
It was the third in a series hosted by Red River Valley Beekeepers.
It was free to attend, but registration was required in advance.
Speakers discussed everything from personal safety to proper hive maintenance.
Event organizers say it’s a lot of information to take in at once especially with the misconceptions about beekeeping that they need to set straight.
“We’ve even heard some potential concerns about bees swarming across roadways and things like that,” said beekeeping enthusiast Kelly Parker. “That happens very, very rarely. Honeybees are one of the most gentle insects there are, because if a honeybee stings you, it dies.”
If you missed out, but still want to get into beekeeping, the organization is accepting orders for 2 and 3 pound bee packages until March 15.
