Beekeepers Association hosts annual conference
The Nebraska Beekeepers Association held their annual winter conference on Saturday. Along with speakers, they hold business meetings and elect officers for the upcoming year.
President Trey Nelson said the event is all about education. People spoke on everything from the beginning basics to raising your own queen bees. Nelson said the goal is to cover a wide range of topics.
“In the association, we have people who this last year was their first year with bees,” said Nelson. “We have people who have joined, who have yet to get bees but they’re going to get them this year. And then we have people who have had bees for 30 years.”
Nelson said there might be a time where two sessions are running at the same time, with different target audiences. Adding, they try to scale it to where there’s something for everyone. He also shared some beekeeping tips.
“Forge is a big thing you know,” said Nelson. “When you got you’ve got your bees you need to make sure that they’re in an area where there’s stuff for them to pollinate. They have a good pollen supply, nectar flow which then may turn into honey.”
Nelson said they also talk about monitoring for pest and disease.
