3-year-old complained of hearing 'monster voices' in bedroom. It was 60,000 bees
When 3-year-old Saylor Class began complaining of “monsters in her bedroom”, her parents didn’t really think much of it and dismissed it as a figment of a child’s vivid imagination. Her mother, Ashley Massis Class and her husband had just showed “Monsters, Inc.”, a famous Pixar movie to the kid.
“We even gave her a bottle of water and said it was monster spray so that she could spray away any of the monsters at night,” Massis Class told BBC. However, Saylor didn’t budge and kept on insisting that there was something in her closet. Then, the woman noticed bees swarming in clusters near the attic and chimney outside their 100-year-old farmhouse in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The parents thought that the ‘monster voices” Saylor heard was actually the buzzing made by bees. The couple contacted a beekeeper who noticed that bees were travelling towards the floorboard of the attic, directly above their daughter’s bedroom.
To the couple’s horror, the beekeeper discovered 55,000-65,000 beesand 45 kg of honeycomb above Saylor’s bedroom. According to the report in BBC, the bees had spent eight months to build that humongous hive.
"It lit up like Christmas," Massis Class said. “They just came pouring out like a horror movie.”
The insects have been relocated to a honeybee sanctuary after they were removed in three extractions. According to Massis Class, the honeybees damaged the house's electric wiring.
She claimed that the homeowners won't be covering up anything pest-related as they deem it preventable. As per Ashley Massis Class, the bee infestation has costed her upwards of $20,000 (Rs 16,69,744 approximately).
