Junior Engineer dies in honeybee attack in Odisha
Ajunior engineer died after he was attacked by a swarm of honey bees at Mahuldiha under Rairangpur police limits in the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district. The deceased has been identified as Biswanath Murmu, junior engineer engaged in the Tiring block.
As per reports, Biswanath Murmu was residing in a government quarter at Mahuldiha. The bees had erected a huge hive near his residence. Unfortunately, the honeybees were disturbed for some reason and attacked him, leaving him critically injured.
He was immediately taken to Rairangpur Medical Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival. The sudden and tragic circumstances of the attack have left the local community in shock.
Authorities have urged caution and have advised residents to remain vigilant, especially in areas where bee populations are dense. Mayurbhanj, known for its diverse wildlife, occasionally experiences such incidents.
“He was residing alone at the quarters provided by the government. There were bees near his residence. They were disturbed for some reason and attacked him,” a neighbour stated.
Just a few days back, nearly 30 students and some teachers of a government-run high school were injured after they were attacked by a swarm of honeybees in Kendrapara district. The incident occurred while the students had gathered on the premises of the school, for the annual function.
As per sources, the bees had erected a two-foot-long hive in a tree on the school premises. A troop of monkeys disturbed the hive, leading to the bees going berserk, and attacking the students and teachers.
