Algonquin College students create buzz with new beekeeping club
Algonquin Times, the news media outlet for Algonquin College reports that two business agriculture students at the Perth campus are turning their passion for bees into a sweet success. Lauren Clemenger and Judd Andrew Ada launched the Bee Club to teach students about beekeeping and give back to the community.
Building on a blueprint from past students, Clemenger and Ada aim to create a lasting legacy. Clemenger, an experienced beekeeper, manages hives of docile Ontario domestic bees. Ada, an entomology graduate, developed educational tools to prepare club members for hands-on hive work.
The Bee Club already has 30 members—six times the minimum required. Members will learn beekeeping basics during the winter and gain practical experience managing hives and selling honey in the spring and summer.
Beyond hives, the club plans to plant flowers on campus, supporting bee pollination and involving the community. Leaders hope the club will evolve into a long-term resource, enriching education and promoting sustainability.
