Over 25 injured in bee attack during Science Fair in Odisha school
An unforeseen incident occurred during Vigyan Mela (science fair) when a hive of bees was inadvertently disturbed, resulting in injuries to more than 25 persons including students at Pattamundai High School in Kendrapara district.
According to sources, the hive situated about 200 metres away from the school premises was accidentally agitated, prompting a swarm of bees to attack students, teachers, and guardians present at the event.
Panic ensued as those affected by the bee attack fled in search of safety. In the wake of this commotion, community members and parents promptly came to aid the students, who were later transported to Pattamundai sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
This incident has highlighted the importance of implementing safety precautions during large gatherings, particularly when they are held close to natural habitats.
When contacted, Pattamundai block education officer (BEO) Harihar Dalai said, “Around seven students were attacked by bees. We provided them first-aid and let go. I did not have the information that more students were injured.”
“The incident occurred accidentally and no one should be held responsible for it. However, we will make necessary arrangements for treatment,” the BEO further said.
