Scientific Beekeeping Training Held in South Andaman to Promote Sustainable Practices and Increase Agricultural Productivity
The hands on training on ‘Scientific Bee Keeping’ commenced from 23rd to 24th July, 2024 at the Organic Horticulture Farm, Sippighat, South Andaman, aimed to equip the bee keepers with knowledge and practical skills to promote the effective and sustainable beekeeping practices.
The valedictory function was held on July 24 in which Shri Abhishek Gulia, the Director of Agriculture was the chief guest. He highlighted the importance of integrating scientific knowledge with traditional beekeeping practices to enhance productivity and sustainability. He urged the farmers, SHG members and youth to adopt bee keeping practices which offer dual benefits such as honey, it’s by products and pollination services that help in increasing the productivity and yield of crops. By supporting both honey production and pollination, beekeeping contributes to agricultural productivity, ecological health, and economic stability, he added.
During the valedictory event, the Director of Agriculture presented Certificates to 35 participants who have attended two days training programme. The training programme featured a series of sessions, including hands-on experience on good apiray management practices, interactive lectures, and field demonstrations through which the Participants gained advanced techniques in hive management, pest control, honey extraction, bee health and the economic aspects of beekeeping.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ramesh Kumar, Joint Director (Agri) informed that knowledge and practical skills gained through this training will ultimately benefit the local farming community to adopt sustainable Bee Keeping in their holdings. Various issues related to Agriculture was addressed and resolved during the programme.
